She Cried After Her Race...and That Was the Best Part?

Updated: Apr 20

It was her first time in a pool race. She’s 8, confident in class, chatty at home and usually the one telling us what to do. But on race day, she was quiet. Focused. A little nervous.

When the whistle blew, she swam hard. Not perfectly. But with all her tiny might.

She came third. And when she got out of the pool, she cried.

Not because she lost. Not because anyone made her feel small. But because she cared.

That’s what SportON gave her. A space where effort mattered. Where kids don’t just show up to win — they show up to feel something. To move. To try. To learn how to lose with grace and win with humility.

One of the SportON team members came over and told her, "You were brave. Want to try again next month?" That shifted everything.

By the time we reached home, she was already talking about fixing her dive.

Sometimes, sport isn't about the podium. It’s about the moment a child learns that courage comes before confidence.
